District of Columbia AI and Privacy Laws
The District of Columbia has no broad AI law or comprehensive consumer privacy law.
What the law says
Its AI rules cover District government: since February 12, 2026, all District government employees and contractors must complete responsible AI training.
The Stop Discrimination by Algorithms Act, which would have covered algorithmic decisions in employment, housing, credit, and insurance, never passed.

What this means for your organization
These rules apply mainly to state and local government. Agencies, public schools, and the vendors that serve them should expect requirements for AI inventories, written policies, and human oversight.
Our 2027 AI Governance Checklist covers the steps most organizations need, and our State AI Law Trackers explain the rules for specific industries.
